Jordan Dixon, Class of 2024 at Oak Ridge Military Academy, NC made his choice to further his education and basketball career at Averett University over the weekend and the choice could not have been any sweeter for him and his family!
We first became aquainted with Jordan in March of 2023 as we began our AAU season on the Phenom Hoops tournament exposure platform. Jordan made an immediate impact in the first game as he threw down a thunderous baseline dunk in traffic, after a ball fake to get his defender off balance! I immediately looked at our bench and said to them, “We may have something here!”, but what I didn’t know yet was just how good a person that we had in Jordan! As we continued to compete from March until August, it became evident just how impactful Jordan would prove to be on me, my family, and our NLPB Team Select family! Jordan’s desire to hoop and make it to the next level became more and more evident and impactful when I found out that on a couple of occasions, Jordan had taken an uber to get to the weekend tournament site! He proved to be a very infectious young man who ALWAYS greeted us with A HUGE SMILE and would make each day, a good day! That is what I mean when I say Jordan is a pleasure to have around!
At the beginning of our AAU season, Jordan had no offers and very little interest from any college coaches or programs, but that changed after the first game! His recruitment would prove to be a very exciting time for us all as more and more coaches began to recruit Jordan. Jordan told me that at the time of his decision that he had been contacted by 22 college coaches and programs!
When I spoke to Jordan about his decision, he spoke of the impact that Head Coach Dave Doino and Assistant Coach KeShawn Lewis immediately made on him during his first visit to Averett University! Jordan told me “that it just felt like the perfect fit and made me feel like I was home and with family and I know that the coaches will coach me to be the best player that I can be!” Averett basketball program got a good one in Jordan!
Thank you Jordan for all the basketball memories, but most of all, thank you for being you!!! Jordan Dixon will always be a part of our NLPB family, but more importantly, be a part of the Cassell family! We love you J and can’t wait to watch you hoop for the Averett Cougars basketball program!
